Area 51

So there are 13 Regional Qualifiers around the world providing the top 2 or 3 male and female participants for the 2010 CrossFit Games Finals. In total, only the top 50 men and top 50 women make it - including provisions for past winners and the top five finishers from the previous year. With that being said, had each Regional provided the top 7 athletes of each gender, the top 91 females from the regional qualifiers would be competing against the top five from the previous year and the past champions from 2007 and 2008. In total, there would be 98 female competitors. Folks, if the latter scenario was the case, our very own Karianne Dickson, who finished in 7th place in the Northeast Regional this past weekend, would be going to LA for the games. Even though she didn't make the official cut, I think its very safe to say that our Coach is easily one of the top 100 female athletes IN THE WORLD!

Great job Karianne - you're an inspiration to us all!

And a Happy Birthday today to my sister Angelica - who for the past year thought she was already 26...

Feedback

With the benchmark workout (06/05/10) just over three weeks away, I'd like to see if anyone has any feedback on how the challenge has been going so far - and specifically if there is anything else that i can do for you as we approach the home stretch? Feel free to post anonymously if you want - or just email me.

Also as a reminder - there will be NO open gym/classes this saturday (05/15/10) at CF Motown due to the Level 1 cert. But feel free to go to Bernardsville for a WOD at either 815am or 915am.

Lastly - since i didn't have a graph for last friday of graphic week and im interested in nerdy things:

Nutrition Lecture - Tonight at 815pm

“The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.” ~ Thomas Edison

This lecture literally changed my life way back when in June 2009. I know a lot you have been implementing Paleo and some of you have even gone zone - but you can never know enough about nutrition. Please try and make it!

1min

Rowing and Running - two of the activities that most crossfitters dread - and they were programmed back to back this week. I guess I should have photoshoped the graph above to include rowing and/or runnning (or tabata anything) as having a perceived length in excess of 10 minutes...

So my 1RM for back squat went up +10 to 235#, deadlift went up +20 to 345#, and bench went up +10 to 245# - anyone else care to post their increases?

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Remember to keep the drinks as paleo as you can.

(Dryer) Capacity

What you put in is what you get out - so dont let this forth week become just another "Wednesday" - another "Hump Day" - in this Be CrossFit Challenge - keep on fighting to get those good times during the WODs.

For those of you going for strength - you should be doing your new 1RM today - if you haven't already done so - post what you did!

Graphic Week

Beginning of week 4 Leanderthals. Thanks for checking in and giving me your food logs and WOD updates - I'll be getting back to each of you by tomorrow.

Mark your calendars now - there is the nutrition workshop this Thursday - and in case you havent noticed, Karianne is clearly a great resource!

I dont have any pets now, but my family used to have a dalmation. My sincerest condolences to the Connor (and Omland) family for the loss of their four legged family member this weekend. In honor of the joy pets bring into people's live - first graph of the week.

Sit Up Straight!

Well i beg to differ...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/bw/1019b4177071221162

Notice the mention of how the slight S shape of the spine serves us well. Sound familiar? It should - it's the same as the midline stabilization that we always harp on during skill work. CrossFit trains functional movements peeps!

I'm going to try and get my work to go for a walking desk...
